J U S T G I V E M E S O M E T I M E
It was late, but that didn't stop the dinner from being open. The artificial light burned into the young woman's eyes, annoying her endlessly. It was a job, and it had to be done. After being groped and yelled at all day, Kayley was mentally exhausted from the day's work. Then again, it gave her a step closer to affording college, and that was the best thing she could ever ask for. Education was all she ever wanted.
College kids came and went from the small dinner, scuffling up the clean floor, and making her feel extremely jealous. Kayley would have killed to be in their shoes. Did they know how hard she was working each night just to keep herself fed? Kayley went to a booth and flipped open her old notepad, her outfit clung uncomfortably around her body. Her boss, a nice women, had given her a smaller size to get her better tips. So far, it wasn't working. Two times she had been stiffed today, a annoying occurrence that happens with poor college kids.
"Can I help you?" Kayley muttered, brushing the hair out of her eyes. Her tapped her pencil on the table without thinking, and stopped herself in mid-tap, hoping this wouldn't cause the costumer to dislike her in any way. How badly she wanted to go home and lay in her bed, to give up for the day and just sleep? Ronnie had promised to pick her up by now, but he was a no-show. Her shift had ended 10 minutes earlier, but the other girl didn't arrive and this offered more money, something she couldn't refuse.
Not that Kayley hadn't thought about being a stripper, just the thought of that sent her into a fit of giggles. How gross that would be to have older men paw at her. No money in the world could make her take that job seriously. Oh, jeez. Just imaging it was quite strange. Kayley snapped out of her own thoughts, paying close attention to who she was serving now. No sense in slacking off!

Kaden had spent a total of two minutes when getting ready for his date that night. He hated going out on dates with girls, mainly for the fact that he had yet to find a girl that he really wanted and some of it was because he didn’t want to let go of something that had happened a couple of years ago. It was almost like he was waiting for the perfect girl to come along to make him forget about her. Though the date he was about to go on, was nothing but a pity date to him. The girl had practically begged him for a date and he had just shrugged and agreed, though now he was already regretting it. He knew he was in for an extremely painful night.
When Kaden had gone to pick up the girl, he didn’t even acknowledge the fact that she was there, even as she blabbed on about something Kaden couldn’t have cared less about. He had driven all the way to the small diner without even a word to her, not that she even noticed. Even as he walked in and sat down somewhere, he kept his eyes on the menu and when the waitress came up, he didn’t look up until she had asked if she could help them. When he looked up at her and met her eyes, he lost all train of thought that he had. It took him a moment to actually recollect himself, realizing that he had probably just looked like a complete idiot. “Uhm, what would you suggest from here?” he asked.
Normally, Kaden would have been just checking her out like any normal girl, but there was something about her. Something that made Kaden not able to take his eyes off of her. For a moment, he thought it may have been because she looked like Gabrielle had, but that wasn’t the case, for she looked nothing of the sort. “Do you go to Santorini?” Kaden asked her, curious if he had even been close to her but never even noticed her, not that it was possible to do so easily. At that moment, Kaden was silently begging for his ‘date’ to just leave at that moment.

Kayley tucked away her notepad in her pocket, bending one knee with her thinking face clearly titled on her face. Her folded hands blocked any clear view of cleavage, a habit she had picked up ever since she started to work at the diner. For the first time, Kayley looked at the two customers. Kayley couldn't help but have a doubletake at the guy, he was...God damn, beautiful. What the hell was he doing with this girl?
"Well, I...Suggest you order nothing from the breakfast part." Kayley said, picking up his menu and flipped through. Her heart felt light, but she assumed that was from being so tired. "One of the cooks has a this whole thing about 'it's just not right' after 12. So, he'll spit in your food. I would go with the burger, it's quite good." Kayley bit her lip and nodded, tapping her white sneaker on the floor.
"Also, don't ask for sprite. Trust me, the machine is all funky and ever since last month it taste something like death." Kayley put down the menu, and then got a napkin out of her pocket. "Also, honey if you wanted him so badly natural is the way to go, dude." She laughed, tossing the napkin at her. "I mean, I may get dolled up for a man, but..."
Kayley just laughed, unable to say her last sentence. "Alright, do you need more time or are you ready to order?" She asked, regaining her up-right pose and getting her handy-dandy notebook out. Kayley scanned the parking lot, which could be viewed from the diner's window, and shook her head not seeing the waitress that would take her spot.
"Isn't it rude when people don't introduce yourself?" She suddenly asked the two. "I'm so sorry, I'm...Amelia." Kayley told them, the best part about the job was making up her name, but Kayley had forgotten to take off her name tag today. Kayley avoided his gaze, trying not to look foolish.

Kaden smiled at the girls honesty about the food there. “Oh come on, breakfast after twelve? That’s when it’s best,” he told her, feeling comfortable with talking to her. “Breakfast in the morning just doesn’t taste as good as it does in the evening,” he shook his head like it was an obvious thing. “And I guess I really don’t want anything that tastes like death,” he commented absently. “Do you have chocolate milk by any chance?” he asked curiously, having the sudden want for some chocolate milk.
When the girl had started insulting his ‘date’, Kaden just couldn’t help but laugh. It was all true, just a little too true. His date was obviously extremely offended by the waitress’s comments and she got up, getting ready to leave. “Kaden, lets go back to your place,” she told him. Though that made Kaden raise an eyebrow. He had never liked being told what to do, nor did he plan on sleeping with this girl like she was obviously hoping for. Kaden wasn’t anywhere near man-whorish, he was never into the whole sleeping around with random girls thing, it was just a big waste of time to him. If he was going to sleep with someone, he wanted to do it with someone who he actually cared about.
“Yeah, I’m going to go with no,” Kaden told her rudely. “You can walk yourself home,” he shrugged, not moving from his spot. He laughed a bit as she huffed at him and walked out the door. He turned to the girl. “Thank you, you just saved me a night of her annoying voice,” he told her, flashing her a smile. “And no, it’s not really rude,” he told her. “Now if we were to meet anywhere else it may be rude.” He looked over her name tag. “Though it is a bit rude that you’d fake your name,” he smiled at her, pointing to her name tag.
“Now how about you use your real name,” he smiled. “Because I’d have to say that it is much, much prettier, very fitting for such a pretty girl,” he commented. “By the way, I’m Kaden,” he introduced himself. Kaden looked around the empty diner, seeing it was only him and her there. “Now, since you have no one to serve and you’ve scared away that one girl, I think you should join me for dinner,” he said, looking into her eyes.

"That's what I said, but he was all 'Kayley, you must find the finer things in life! Breakfast is not meant to be eaten at dinner, now go help that man!' Yea, and nobody wants to contradict him because he's crazy." Kayley said, pointing her pencil eraser at him. "We do have chocolate milk! Good choice, sir, I might say. I need a chocolate fix myself." She admitted, rubbing her eyes.
"Oh, that's gotta hurt." Kayley commented, watching her leave. Part of her was relieved to get rid of her, mostly because she had been glaring at Kayley and obviously wasn't getting a good tip out of her. "Since I did you a favor I better get a decent tip." Kayley winked at him. "It's my pleasure to ruin your date, I should go into that business. Saving a guy's night." Kayley nodded, putting her hand on her chest. "It would be better then this job."
"I can't believe girl's like that exist, you know the ones that expect to be given presents everyday and worship the ground they stand on, if that's possible. Gotta tell you, it's the funniest and worst thing I've seen." Kayley added, pretending to write on her paper. "Hope she doesn't get mugged though, this isn't the best place to walk home from, I've done it before. Completely sucks." Kayley made a face of discontent. Ronnie better remember to pick her up!
"You're a very good observer, Mr. Customer." Kayley said, laughing at herself. A slight blush crept op on her face. That was stupid of her. "Alright, I'll use my real name, Kayley. And thanks for the compliment, you stranger, you?" She couldn't help but feel so flattered. "Nice to meet you Kaden. Aw, what the hell. I'll join you, but after I get you that chocolate milk." Kayley scurried away to get it quickly, finding the two cooks goofing off in the back.

Kaden rolled his eyes. “He needs better taste in food, then,” he sighed. “And I know right, chocolate milk is amazing. I may have to buy some for me to keep around my house,” he told her, though the last part was more of a reminder to himself. He never kept much food around his house, just because of the fact that he was never home to eat it and when he finally did go to eat it, it was usually no longer good anymore. He saw her rub her eyes. “Are you tired?”
“Sucks to be her,” Kaden shrugged, knowing how heartless he was being, but not exactly caring. “If she really wanted she could have called some other guy to come pick her up,” he said, glancing through the menu one more time. “By any chance, do you have macaroni and cheese here? I feel like that sounds really good right now for some reason,” he sighed, used to just snacking on things and never having anything real to eat. “And I’m sure it would be a lot better, you’d be able to tell bitchy, disgusting girls how it really is,” he chuckled. “And don’t worry, I’m a good tipper, though for you I may be extra good,” he told her.
Kaden couldn’t believe how easy it was to just talk to her, to have normal conversation with someone. “She’ll be fine,” he rolled his eyes and waved his hand dismissively. “Like I said, she’ll be fine. She’ll find some guy to hook up with and she’ll be just dandy,” Kaden smiled. “Do you have a ride home tonight?” Kaden questioned, more than willing to take her home. He wanted to take her home, he couldn’t help but just want to be around her. She had a personality that just drew him in. And her looks helped all the more.
“Mr.Coustomer?” Kaden questioned. “Yeah, I think I prefer being called Kaden,” he chuckled. “You never did answer my question if you went to Santorini or not, I expect an answer when you get back!” he called her, shaking his head a bit at himself. He picked up the menu once more and started going through the deserts, even reading the description under each one, trying to pass the time before Kayley came back with the chocolate milk.

Kayley raced back to the table, setting down his chocolate milk, and playfully threw a straw at him. His good would be ready soon, and then the guy's would take off, leaving Kayley and the late night guy to clean up. It would an annoying job, but somebody had to do it!
"He's a nice guy, most people think I'm crazy because I can't stand waffles...There's just something about them that really turns me off." Kayley admitted, laughing at herself. "Chocolate milk is good, quite tasty and sort of healthy? Well, maybe not healthy, but it gets you by." She nodded, leaning on the table. "Most of the food I buy consists of sweets, I just can't help myself." Her shoulders shrugged slightly.
"Of course I'm tired, I spent the day getting sneered at by jealous girls, hit on by weird old men, and some little kid threw food at me." The job was truly miserable. Kayley leaned back a bit, hearing his comment about the girl he had a date with. "Sucks to be everyone at this point." She oddly said, playing with the napkin holder. "I was actually supposed to be picked up by a guy." Kayley teased, not so pissed that Ronnie forget. "And I got your order in, should be ready soon." She promised.
"I think he forgot you, he does this a lot. He's a troubled college student, the only guy I know with a car. Normally I walk home, but I hate it." Kayley shrugged her shoulders, looking out the window. When he mentioned college a strange look passed over her face.
"I don't go to college." Her tone was oddly calm, but inside she felt extremely embarrassed. "I couldn't afford, you see...I just followed my friends here. No where else to go but to a shitty job." Kayley looked back up at him. "It's not so bad." What bullshit.
